Beauty Sleep is NOT a Myth
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, just a cartoon deer on the internet with a background in chemistry and a hyperfixation on skin. This is not medical advice.
So many high performers brag about not sleeping properly.
Y'all, this is *not* a flex.
Sleep deprivation has negative long-term consequences.
And as a consequence worse than death itself…
It'll make you UGLY.
Your skin will break out, you will kill your gains, and you won't be as productive.
When you’re underslept, your hormones are disregulated as follows:
Cortisol (stress hormone) upregulates
Ghrelin (hunger hormone) upregulates
Leptin (satiation hormone) downregulates
Thus, not sleeping enough throws off your hunger signaling.
If you are an intuitive eater, disruption to ghrelin and leptin production will affect your eating habits.
Over time, this excess caloric intake will result in excess body fat, ruining the very first layer in our pyramid:
Further, upregulated cortisol increases sebum production.
Sebum is the oil our bodies naturally produce.
Increased sebum production leads to pimples, blackheads, blotchy skin.
(Side note: my protocol for blackheads can be found here)
This is a great example of how I always say “health and beauty” is redundant.
Positive health indicators make us beautiful!
To this end, plenty of rest is necessary.
So get your beauty sleep and stop being ugly, k?
Cheers,
