Is Tom's of Maine a Safe Toothpaste? A Dentist Explains
The Hidden Story Tom's of Maine Doesn't Want You to Know
Tom’s of Maine had the entire world convinced it was the safest toothpaste around . . .
Until it all blew up in their faces.
Thankfully, @BowTiedGatorDDS is here to blow the lid off this.
Here's the secret story they don't want you to know:
Tom's of Maine won the hearts of the fluoride hesitant, but they have a few dirty secrets:
They originally had fluoride before it was "taboo"
They aren't the “mom & pop” brand they pretend to be
They've been sued for "natural" claims
Here’s the story:
Tom's was known for being a "safe, all natural" toothpaste.
But what happened instead?
Class Action lawsuits against them for incorrectly branding as "natural", and a Colgate acquisition that was swept under the rug.
In fact, Tom’s only sold for a measly $100M in 2006.
The lawsuit said Tom's "natural" claims were false because their ingredients don't match the messaging.
How did Tom’s Respond?
You can see that they changed "natural" to "naturally derived"
Here you see unnecessary, questionable, and arguably harmful ingredients:
So what's wrong with Tom's?
Besides missing fluoride, their toothpaste isn't something you can consider natural.
Oh, and it's missing a remineralizing agent.
That means that Tom’s didn’t include any ingredients to help your teeth rebuild themselves.
Plus I hate glycerin, SLS, Titanium Dioxide and Carrageenan in my toothpaste.
So what's the point?
You’re always being marketed to.
While you might be contrarian & proudly flip the bird to "Big Dental", someone is profiting off you.
If it's for sale, someone is targeting you specifically to fill a need.
Tom’s of Maine doesn’t care about you.
But hey, at least we do!
