If you’re anything like me, you’ve been told a ‘zillion times about the need for water filtration systems in your home.
Truth be told, I spent most of my life thinking that was BS.
Well, until I learned about fluoride toxicity, particularly for pregnant and nursing women as I had a newborn niece at the time. Then, I started a fluoride-free oral care company and figured I was doing everything right . . .
Right?
Well yes, until I moved, and all of a sudden my skin was splotchy and way drier than normal and itchy and my hair was flat and frizzy and I felt ugly.
All the time.
So, I did a little digging, and I learned that . . . basically everything is poisoning us? Forget about the microplastics and nEMF and artificial light and seed oils that are already near impossible to escape from.
Side note: I use these blue light blocking glasses to get around the artificial light at night issue. Wearing those glasses after sunset + taking magnesium glycinate basically guarantees a great night’s sleep. I also have more stylish blue-light glasses from Gabriel + Simone; they’re not as effective but you don’t look as weird wearing them so . . . tradeoffs.
It turns out there’s all kinds of impurities in our water that can cause problems in and of themselves.
Here are some of the main culprits that are hiding in our water and skin and hair issues they’re associated with:
Haloacetic Acids - Skin irritation and weak hair
Thallium - Hair loss
Chloroform- Skin irritation and redness
Chlorine - Dry skin and damaged hair
Benzoapyrene - Skin thinning, pimples, warts, redness and loss of color
So, I caved and installed a Jolie water filter in my shower.
Er, well, my boyfriend installed it for me . . . but I handed him the little wrench that comes in the package, so that counts, right?
Here’s what it looks like:
In the package, you get a little roll of plumber’s tape and a small wrench with a mint green handle. All in all, installation takes less than 10 minutes, and the results are glorious.

In the month since installing it, I’ve noticed my hair is softer, shinier, and far more resistant to frizz than it used to be.
I can go longer without washing my hair and my scalp doesn’t get as greasy even with the same level of exercise.
My skin also doesn’t get as dry, which I wasn’t expecting but is a fun bonus. I now regret the 6 months of saying I’d get a shower filter and pushing it off.
To soothe my dry skin, especially in the winter, I also finish off my showers with Hanni’s Splash Salve and Nerra’s Dry Oil.
I don’t know much about water filtration, but I like this filter. It’s also a massive improvement over my previous showerhead in terms of overall showering experience.
While writing this, I did a quick Twitter search on my filter, and it turns out even Mike Cernovich is a fan of it!
So, if you’re looking for a good shower filter, be sure to check out Jolie:
