Versed Skin: Is It Worth Your Money?
On Drugstore Skincare that Packs a Punch!
If you want clean, effective skincare that cares for you and the planet, you should check out Versed.
Among the leagues of affordable-but-elevated brands that have made their way into Target like Cocokind and Naturium, Versed is another that I think makes solid products at accessible price points.
Their product line includes cleansers, moisturizers, masks, and treatments for various skin needs.
You can see 5 that I’ve tested out for the last month here:
I wouldn’t say Versed “wow’-ed me in any particular way, but I think they make basic, every-day items that we all could stand to have a couple of in our homes.
Think of them like your favorite black t-shirt - it’s not exactly a suit or a dress, but it gets the job done when you have more important things to think about.
In this review, I’ll walk you through my experience with these 5 products and help you decide if one (or a couple) might be right for you.
1. Instant Resurfacing Mask
The Doctor's Visit Instant Resurfacing Mask has a fun jelly texture, almost like Jell-O.
The pineapple enzymes help loosen dead skin and reduce minor hyperpigmentation and blemishes.
I think it’s pretty similar to Banish's Pumpkin Enzyme Masque but gentler.
The Pumpkin Enzyme Masque from Banish burned my skin a bit when I left it on for 10 minutes
(yeah yeah…kind of my fault for leaving it on for that long, but I have some stubborn hyperpigmentation!)
However, I applied this mask from Versed for just 3 minutes, and there was no burning or anything.
I washed it off, went to bed, and woke up the next morning to a nice, soft glow in the mirror.
Overall, it's a good product and a reasonably priced exfoliant.
I wouldn't recommend using it more than once a week, but if you want an AHA and BHA complex to improve skin texture, dark spots, or uneven tone, this is a great option.
That said, if you’re just looking for a straight BHA product to tackle blackheads or something similar, check out Paula’s Choice 2% BHA instead. That one doesn’t have any AHAs.
2. Dew Point Moisturizing Gel-Cream
The Dew Point Gel-Cream Moisturizer is a lovely option, and it’s probably my favorite product I’ve tried from Versed.
It's super lightweight, making it perfect for oily skin, especially in the summertime.
The gel-cream has a translucent, almost cloudy color and a jelly-like texture that absorbs instantly.
It contains sodium hyaluronate, which helps draw in and retain moisture, aloe leaf juice for hydration, and natural antioxidants from green tea to soothe the skin and combat free radicals.
Truly, this moisturizer is excellent for those with oily or acne-prone skin. It hydrates effectively without clogging pores.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t use it if you have dry skin like me.
Overall, it's a great moisturizer for anyone looking to keep their skin bouncy and refreshed without the heaviness.
For those with super dry skin, consider trying one of my favorite moisturizers like Naturium Marshmallow Root Barrier Balm or Medik8 Advanced Ceramide Night Cream instead.
However, please note that I think these two are better used as winter-time or nighttime creams.
In fact, I’m putting the former on my “pass” list for my upcoming “Summertime Smash or Pass” article, not because it’s not a great moisturizer but because it’s too thick to wear in the heat.
3. The Purist Daily Cleanser
Purist Daily Antioxidant Cleanser is like a general jelly cleanser that you can find anywhere.
It features superfruit antioxidants like blueberry, raspberry, apple, and cucumber extracts, which offer a soothing and conditioning cleanse.
While it’s not extraordinary and doesn’t match the one I formulated, it’s a fine choice for those seeking a basic, gentle cleanser to start their skincare routine.
4. Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm
Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm is an excellent choice for those of us who need to double cleanse.
I tried it in a bunch of scenarios - no makeup or sunscreen, to remove sunscreen, and to remove heavy makeup including red lipstick, and it did a phenomenal job of thoroughly cleansing my skin each time.
You really only need a tiny amount to completely remove sunscreen.
The formula contains vitamin E, eucalyptus oil, clove leaf oil, jojoba oil, and avocado oil which makes it quite nourishing, but for those of you who are sensitive, your skin may not love the eucalyptus oil.
Personally, I find the eucalyptus a bit overpowering in scent.
Also, the packaging is also perfect for travel, making it a great cleanser to take on the go.
And finally, despite having acne-prone skin, I’m not worried about it causing breakouts.
Funny enough, I actually prefer this cleansing balm to the more expensive Cleansing Oil from Tatcha. It does come in a smaller package though.
5. Weekend Glow Daily Brightening Solution
Weekend Glow AHA Liquid Exfoliant effectively targets uneven skin tone, including dark spots and lingering post-acne marks.
It uses a powerful blend of natural skin-brighteners: this exfoliating treatment combines a four-acid complex with kojic and azelaic acids, AHAs, and bearberry extract.
Gentle enough for daily use, this brightening leave-on liquid exfoliant visibly improves skin tone and texture without causing any tingling sensation.
While I like AHA exfoliants, if you have particularly stubborn hyperpigmentation, I would recommend a more effective formula like Allies of Skin Night Corrector Serum, Paula’s Choice Discoloration Serum, or Topicals Faded instead.
Cheers,
