Black Friday Guide: Oily & Acne-Prone Skin

Murad is one of my favorite brands for people with oily and acne-prone skin because their formulas use multiple active ingredients to give you a holistic treatment approach.

For example - their hormonal acne treatment? Includes not just salicylic acid, but also a phytosteriod that targets inflammation and redness and other skin-loving ingredients.

While I love their acne products, I don’t always think the price is reasonable for their anti-aging products.

But . . . that all changes around Black Friday.

Best Acne Cleanser

• Product: Murad Acne Control Clarifying Cleanser

• Key Ingredients: Salicylic Acid, Green Tea Extract, Amino Acids

• Ideal For: Acne-prone skin

• Unique Feature: Treats acne with prolonged release formula

• How to Use: Dispense a nickel-sized amount and massage it into damp skin. I suggest only using this once per day if you can.

Best Acne Scar Treatment

• Product: Murad InvisiScar Resurfacing Treatment

• Key Ingredients: Salicylic Acid, Centella Asiatica Extract, Vitamin C

• Ideal For: People with acne scars

• Unique Feature: Minimizes the look of post-acne scars and uneven texture

• How to Use: Apply a thin layer over the areas of acne scarring after cleansing but before moisturizing. I suggest using a rich moisturizer afterward to prevent any excess dryness. You can use this morning or night.

• How to Use: Massage evenly over your face and neck after cleansing and before moisturizing. You could use this morning and evening, but I’d stick to morning.

• Key Ingredients: Vitamins A-F, Omega Fatty Acids

• Ideal For: All skin types, especially dry or dull skin

• Unique Feature: Provides anti-oxidant support & seals in moisture

• How to Use: Apply a few drops to your face, neck, and chest after moisturizing. You can use this daily as part of your evening routine; I wouldn’t use it in the mornings

Best Anti-Aging Serum

• Ideal For: Mature skin, fine lines, and wrinkles

Best Anti-Aging Night Cream

• How to Use: If you’re not into the separate retinol serum, get this instead. You can apply it to your face, neck, and upper chest as the last step of your evening routine

Best Dark Circles Corrector

• Ideal For: Dark circles, puffiness, and wrinkles around your eyes

• Unique Feature: Brightens and firms your skin around the eye area

• How to Use: Gently pat around your eye area after cleansing and using a serum, but before your moisturizer. You can use this twice a day.

Best Dark Spot Corrector

• Product: Murad Rapid Dark Spot Correcting Serum

• Key Ingredients: Resorcinol, Tranexamic Acid, Glycolic Acid

• Ideal For: Hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone

• Unique Feature: Rapidly reduces the look of dark spots

• How to Use: You can use this either as a spot treatment or all over your face between cleansing and moisturizing. Should be gentle enough to layer with a vitamin C serum or retinol, but your results may vary.

The Bottom Line

I think Murad does incredible things in the skincare world, especially for people with oily and acne-prone skin.

While it might not always be an accessible brand to people, the 30% off sale for Black Friday makes it a good time to stock up or try out something new that might end up being your holy grail.
