It looks way darker in the pictures than it actually is in person, but still, on me, it’s deeper than I’d like and feels more like a bronzer (as if I’ve ever worn bronzer before, lol).

The shade is too dark for my everyday look, but I’ve been wanting to learn more about makeup anyway, so I’m going to start experimenting with using Spicy as a bronzer over my contour and then layering a blush on top.

My everyday shade is Chilly, which is absolutely beautiful.

It’s this rosy pink color that brightens my whole face.

It makes me look flushed, healthy, and alive, and it blends in seamlessly without ever looking caked on.

It looks just as good in photos as it does in person, and I wear it nearly every day.

I swear by it so much that I’m already planning to repurchase it with my own money.

I’ve only ever tried two blushes before, the Makeup by Mario blush in red and this one from Saie, and Saie’s Dew Blush is a thousand times better.

If there’s one thing I recommend trying from this brand, it’s this blush.

It’s just that good!

2. SuperSuede Powder Blush

I tried the Saie SuperSuede Powder Blush, and it’s really pretty.

The formula blends really easily, and the shade I got, Stella, is a lovely pinky color.

For me it was a little too pinkish, but that’s just personal preference.

The only thing I noticed is that there was quite a bit of fallout, with powder getting a little bit everywhere.

That might just be because I’m not great at using powder products in general.

I don’t usually wear eyeshadow or anything like that since I don’t know how to blend super well, so it could totally be me not applying it correctly.

3. The Powder Blush Brush

I used the brush that came with the SuperSuede Blush, and I’ve also tried it with the setting powder.

What I really like is that it doesn’t deposit any fibers on my face.

I have a bunch of brushes from another brand, Rephr, and while I like those, I’ve noticed they sometimes leave little fibers behind when I’m blending my contour or blush.

That doesn’t happen with this Saie brush, which makes it a lot nicer to use.

4. Slip Tint Baked Setting Powder

The Slip Tint Baked Setting Powder has been a surprise favorite for me.

I don’t really know how to “bake” my face, and I’m not into a 100-step makeup routine, but I really like this powder.

In the summer when I get kind of sweaty, my makeup can look almost wet.

This powder mattifies everything without looking heavy.

I tested it at a wedding in Hawaii a few weeks ago.

I didn’t use any setting spray, and my makeup stayed on all night in the humid weather.

That made me think it’s actually pretty good.

Speaking of setting spray, I’ve tried the L’Oréal Infallible one, but it stings my face a little.

5. Glossybounce Lip Gloss Oil

The Glossybounce Lip Gloss Oil has been another hit for me.

I tried it in the shade Splash, which (ironically, compared to the blushes above) looks way brighter in the pictures than it actually is.

On the lips, it is more of a nude, peachy color that feels easy to wear every day.

The formula is excellent.

It is super hydrating, not sticky like some glosses, and it makes my lips feel soft.

I would say it sits somewhere between Eadem’s lip gloss and the one from REM Beauty.

Eadem is thicker and more pigmented, and REM Beauty is a little bit thinner but also stickier.

Glossybounce feels like the perfect middle ground.

I like that the shade I have does not feel over the top.

It just makes me look nice and put together without looking like I tried too hard.

The Buffing Bar is their take on a physical exfoliating brick.

Instead of coming in a tube like a traditional scrub, it’s a solid bar you can use directly on your skin in circular motions.

I like that it’s fragrance free and packaged entirely in paper and cardboard, which makes it more sustainable than the usual plastic squeeze tubes.

It’s not super, super strong, so it could be really good for people with sensitive skin, especially those dealing with ingrown hairs or keratosis pilaris.

Carea Cream

I’ve written about Carea Cream before, and I still love it. It’s a body lotion with 10% urea, which I think is amazing.

Urea is a multitasker; it works double time as both an exfoliant and a hydrator, so it leaves you with really soft skin, especially if you’re flaking and stuff.

The texture is pretty lightweight and doesn’t have an offensive smell, so I think it’s fine for summer.

You can even layer it over a hydrating serum after spending time in the sun, and it feels perfect.

The packaging is high quality, I think it’s aluminum, and mine came with a pump separately.

Overall, it’s one of my favorite everyday lotions because it actually makes a difference.

Clearing Mist

The last product I tried is Clearing Mist, a spray made for body breakouts.

This one has 1% salicylic acid, which is great for people with more sensitive skin that can’t handle stronger acne products.

It also has zinc PCA, an ingredient I don’t see very often, but I love because zinc PCA is good for controlling oil production.

That makes it especially helpful for people that get acne from sweating a ton.

You can spray it on your back, your legs, whatever, wherever you get body acne, and I think it’s smart to apply it in the morning before you head out for the day.

The spray format is super convenient because, unlike toners you have to pour into your hand, this actually reaches the areas you need.

The only thing I’m not a huge fan of is the odd smell, which I think comes from the tea tree oil.

But if that doesn’t bother you, it’s a solid option for keeping body breakouts in check.

Overall, I love Soft Services, but I also wanted to mention a few other body products I’ve been into.

I got these R.e.m. Beauty glosses in PR in three colors you can see in the pictures, and I’ve been wearing them a lot.

The color is light, giving more of a “your lips but better” look, and they stay on surprisingly well.

The texture feels light and not overly sticky.

Surprisingly, I actually love that they’re not super pigmented because it makes them easy to wear every day, even if I’m just in sweatpants and want to look a little more put together.

The formula is a little thicker and heavier than EDEAM’s, which might make it last longer for you (it does in my opinion).

If you like more pigment, EDEAM is the better choice, but if longevity is more important, go for R.e.m. Beauty.

If you have sensory issues or just prefer something lighter, EDEAM might be the way to go, but if you want a light, non-sticky gloss you can reach for daily, R.e.m. Beauty is worth trying.

Verdict

Trying EDEAM and R.e.m. Beauty at the same time showed me they’re both great, just in different ways.

EDEAM feels light and comfy, and it makes my lips look healthy even after it wears down. I love the colors, and the metal tip feels really nice when I put it on.

R.e.m. Beauty feels a little thicker, which helps it stay on longer, and the softer color makes it easy to wear anywhere.

But still, I can’t help but love a bold lip.

So I think I’m more of a lip gloss girl during the day and a liquid lipstick girl at night.

Both of these will stay in my makeup bag for totally different reasons, and I’m glad I tested them side by side.

The Bubble Double is a foaming cleanser made with pomegranate and salicylic acid.

I LOVE this cleanser.

I’m almost out of it and already kind of annoyed about that.

3. The Mist Have

The Mist Have is a face mist with hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and ginseng.

It also has green tea and lavender to help calm your skin (and kind of your senses too).

My Official Bag

This is my official bag, but since it wasn’t in stock initially, I had to come back later to pick it up.

I was in a rush, so I didn’t get the chance to check it in-store. Then, when I finally got it home, I noticed a small imperfection in the leather on the left-center side.

Thankfully, when I took it in, they confirmed that this is a natural part of the type of leather than Juliet is made of, and I didn’t have to worry that it was a premature scratch or anything I did to damage the leather.

While that slight imperfection is scratching my brain in the wrong way, I’ll learn to deal with it because…well, no one normal is looking close enough to notice that anyways! So, why should I let it bother me?

Putting the WavyTalk Thermal Brush to the Test

When the WavyTalk Thermal Brush arrived, I couldn’t wait to try it.

My 3a/3b curls can be a handful, so I was skeptical about how well it would work.

But to my surprise, the brush was super easy to use (even for me - the skincare person who only learned skincare so she could get away with not having to learn makeup and hair)

I started by brushing out my hair with a detangling brush, then worked section by section with the thermal brush.

Unlike a traditional curling wand, I could style larger sections of hair at once, which saved so much time.

In about 30 minutes, my frizzy curls were transformed into a smooth, polished blowout. The results were impressive, and wayyyyy better than what I got at DryBar.

It was also quicker - I spent like an hour at DryBar (not including travel time), and the hair stylist didn’t even give me the style I requested.

This time around at home, my hair felt sleek and soft, and the volume was just right.

Even after a gym session and getting caught in the rain, my hair held up pretty well, but I did have to go back through a couple times in the following days.

With a little hairspray, it probably would’ve lasted even longer. Sadly, I don’t have any hairspray at home, so let me know if you have recommendations. I do use the BarberSets pomade when I want to do a sleek style though.

What Makes It Stand Out

I think of the WavyTalk Thermal Brush as more of a time-saver than a hot tool.

Unlike traditional curling wands or blow dryers, it combines the benefits of both in a single device.

The ability to style larger sections of hair at once makes the process quick and easy, even for beginners like me.

Another standout feature is the included accessories: the brush comes with two alligator clips for easy sectioning.

I also use a separate heat-resistant mat, which is perfect for travel.

Even after my creatine exploded in my suitcase last month and left it a bit dusty, the mat has been a lifesaver.

It lets me pack hot tools while they’re still warm without worrying about damaging my clothes.

While I wish the brush itself was cordless, the affordability and ease of use more than make up for it.

For under $40, it delivers results that rival salon blowouts, without the hefty price tag or wasted time.

Tips for Best Results

Here’s what worked for me:

1. Prep Your Hair: Start with clean, dry hair. I washed mine the night before and used a leave-in conditioner.

   

2. Brush It Out: A detangling brush, like the blue Unbrush, makes it easier to work in sections.

   

3. Style in Sections: The thermal brush works best when you tackle one section at a time. You can use larger sections compared to a curling wand.

   

4. Finish with Hair Oil: Apply a small amount of moisturizing oil to your ends to protect them. Avoid your roots to keep the volume intact. I use the moisturizing hair oil from my friend Jessica’s brand, Fountainhead.

Now, that said, I have to offer this disclaimer:

In my opinion, Matrixyl 3000 is somewhat outdated technology. While I think this product is cool, I’d use a dedicated retinoid and some peptide products for real anti-aging benefits. I love the Mirror Skin Copper Elixir and Polypeptide Dream Cream. For something more budget-friendly, you can consider Medik8’s Liquid Peptides and Naturium’s Multi-Peptide Moisturizer.

Smooth & Supple Lip Mask Melt

Let’s talk about the Smooth & Supple Lip Mask Melt.

Imagine a lip mask that starts as a rich, velvety texture and then melts into your lips like butter. It's infused with a blend of nurturing oils like castor, Abyssinian, and jojoba, each known for their deep hydration properties.

If you know me, you know I’m all about scalp health.

I use the red light helmet for hair growth as often as daily, though sometimes it’s more like 3-5x per week.

It uses red light (620-660nm) to energize hair follicles, reduce inflammation, and improve blood flow.

I also incorporate microneedling and copper peptides for hair growth.

NIOD is one of my favorite brands for high-quality, technologically advanced skincare.

While you won’t really find your basic cleansers here (well, Sanskrit Saponins is a fan favorite, but I wouldn’t put it in the top 5), you will find tons of great products to take your routine to the next level.

Best Overall: NIOD Survival 0

If you're going to get anything from the Deciem brands, get Survival 0. 

NIOD's Survival range is a collection of "networked protection systems" designed to fortify your skin against environmental and lifestyle-related aggressors.

As explained by The Derm Review, the entire Survival 0 line is armed with technologies that combat challenges like superoxide radicals, nitrogen radicals, carbonyl radicals, glycation, advanced glycation end-products (AGE), pollution, smog, stress, infrared, and blue light.

So…basically everything your body is fighting off on a daily basis.

Within the Survival line, Survival 30, Survival 20, and Survival 10 offer mineral-based sun protection, but to my knowledge, they either aren’t available in the US anymore or have been discontinued altogether.

However, Survival 0 isn’t a sunscreen; it’s just a phenomenal product that works synergistically with SPF or when worn alone to combat oxidative stress and environmental damage.

Some of the coolest complexes in this product include superoxide dismutase and a tomato carotenoid complex which provides its iconic orangey-reddish-brownish color.

Alternative to Survival 0

If you're looking for something more budget-friendly, The Ordinary's Barrier Repair Soothing Serum is another great product packed with skin-loving ingredients. 

It doesn’t have the same antioxidant properties, but I still think it’s a great affordable option for a soothing serum.

While the serum is bright pink, it absorbs quickly and dries down matte.

I like to use it after dermaplaning at home or after applying tretinoin for extra barrier support.

Combined with other ingredients, NIOD’s FECC is a great product to target fine lines, loss of upper eyelid elasticity, dark circles, and texture concerns.

The only thing I don’t love about it is that it’s not a “cream”, and it doesn’t provide the moisturizing benefits of a traditional eye product.

If you ask any skincare enthusiast what their favorite NIOD product is, 9 times out of 10 they’ll either say NIOD's Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist or Copper Amino Isolate Serum.

There’s a good reason for that:

This time around, CIAS3 combines 1% pure GHK peptide and 1% Copper Tripeptide-1 (aka GHK-Cu).

GHK-Cu (which you’ve probably heard referred to as just “copper peptides”) has been proven to:

• Reduce photodamage, hyperpigmentation, and skin spots

Listen - if you have acne, blackheads, sebaceous filaments, seborrheic dermatitis (the list goes on), just get The Ordinary’s Salicylic Acid Solution.

Salicylic acid is on the FDA monographic for treating acne, and 2% has been repeatedly proven to be an effective and inexpensive treatment.

This serum can be a little sticky or tacky; although I know tons of people love it, if you’re sensitive to textures, you might want to check out Naturium’s Salicylic Acid Solution instead.

The Ordinary Buffet Serum

Regardless of price, The Ordinary’s Buffet Serum is one of the best peptide products on the market right now.

This serum is a treasure trove of peptides, including:

• Matrixyl 3000, known for stimulating collagen production and restoring skin plumpness

• SYN-AKE which acts like (safe!) snake venom and inihibits facial muscle contraction, preventing the formation of fine lines and wrinkles

• Probiotic complex that balances and supports your skin’s microbiome

• Matrixyl synthe’6 stimulates the synthesis of collagen, fibronectin, and hyaluronic acid to support dermal structure and moisture levels

While I’m using Medik8 Liquid Peptides, this is still a phenomenal (and more affordable) peptide serum option.

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors

The Ordinary might only offer one moisturizer, but they surely knocked it outta the park with their Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA.

Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF) already exist in your skin, and they’re essential for keeping your barrier hydrated and protected.

This formula combines amino acids, ceramides, fatty acids, and a bunch of hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and sodium PCA to nourish your skin.

Plus, I like that it’s lightweight but creamy enough to be suitable for all skin types and environments.

The Ordinary Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate in Vitamin F

This is the only vitamin C serum from The Ordinary that I would actually recommend to someone.

Instead of using l-ascorbic acid which can be unstable and oxidize quickly, this serum includes tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (THD).

THD is a stable, oil-soluble derivative of vitamin C that has brightening properties in its own right and can provide UV-protective benefits.

Plus, the inclusion of vitamin F oil lends a super nourishing touch to the serum which you don’t often find with vitamin C products - ideal for dry skin.

I’ve also tried the Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres, and while I liked it, it has a thicker, more pasty texture.

Note: that’s a pretty common issue I find with The Ordinary products - because they’re so cheap, they’re not really . . . elegant formulas. But hey, if you don’t care about textures, have at it!

I prefer the ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate serum instead for both stability and texture.

Also, if you have oilier skin and prefer a more “matte” texture and feel in your serums, I suggest checking out BeautyStat’s Vitamin C Serum instead.

The Ordinary 10% Mandelic Acid

Mandelic acid is one of the most gentle alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) used in skincare, so I’m a fan of this exfoliant from The Ordinary.

Mandelic acid has benefits like improving skin texture and evening-out skin tone, and many people argue that it’s more suitable for people with darker skin tones than other AHAs.

That’s because stronger acids like glycolic acid and lactic acid are more likely to cause irritation (and therefore potentially hyperpigmentation) for individuals with dark skin tones.

On the other hand, mandelic acid is gentle and unlikely to cause irritation or hyperpigmentation.

Additionally, it’s more suitable for people with acne-prone skin than The Ordinary’s Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid Solution thanks to its structural similarity to salicylic acid.

You’ll typically find mandelic acid in skincare products ranging from 5-15% concentration, so The Ordinary’s 10% Mandelic Acid is both affordable and effective.

The Ordinary Azelaic Acid 10% Suspension

Azelaic acid is one of my favorite over-the-counter skincare ingredients for treating acne, dark spots, and even mild rosacea.

In fact, if you see a dermatologist for rosacea, there’s a good chance they’ll prescribe you a higher-strength azelaic acid medication.

Azelaic acid is a potent antioxidant that also exhibits antimicrobial effects and functions as a tyrosinase inhibitor (meaning it’s great to fight hyperpigmentation and melasma).

While I find The Ordinary’s Azelaic Acid to be effective, it’s not my favorite azelaic serum due to the thick, pasty texture.

In fact, I prefer Naturium’s Topical Azelaic Acid or FaceTheory’s Lumileza Serum.

NIOD vs The Ordinary

You might be a little confused here on the relationship between these brands and Deciem.

Deciem is the umbrella, parent brand that offers both NIOD and The Ordinary as separate brands.

The Ordinary offers a minimalist approach to skincare with a wide variety of single-ingredient products and basic formulations.

If you’re familiar with it, you might agree that The Ordinary is known for providing active ingredients at super affordable prices - if fact, I’d wager The Ordinary has introduced more people to skincare than any other modern brand.

On the other hand, I consider NIOD to be The Ordinary’s older sister.

In fact, NIOD stands for “Non-Invasive Options in Dermal Science” - a fitting name if you ask me!

NIOD products are carefully crafted and incorporate cutting-edge technology and advanced formulations.

This is where you’ll see the big innovations from Deciem, and they come at a higher price point,

Aaaand Hylamide is sort of in-between the two, but it’s gone now, and that’s a story for another day.

The Bottom Line

Both Deciem brands are known for their straightforward packaging, clear ingredient lists, and commitment to addressing various skincare needs.

NIOD typically offers more advanced formulations and specialized products, while you can simple, budget-friendly products at The Ordinary is celebrated for its simplicity and affordability.

Overall, I’m a big fan of Deciem.

Buuuuuuut, if I had to choose - I’d get my cleansers and moisturizers from The Ordinary and leave the specialized serums and treatments to NIOD.

Fawn: So, can you tell me a little bit about how you're feeling about this exciting new venture?

Hailee: Yes, I mean, exciting to say the least. I'm really just so thrilled to be joining with Neutrogena, a brand that I've been using since my early teens, but to now help them launch this brand new product line that helps you bank collagen now before signs of aging begin.

When I learned that you lose 1% of your skin’s collagen every year starting in your 20s, I immediately had that feeling of like, you know, OK, I'm 27 and I have these moments of, like, "I'm really still 16."

And then I realized I'm actually not. I am 27. And here we are losing 1% of our skin's collagen every year starting in our 20s. So I'm so grateful for this product myself, and I can't wait to share this with the world and make it a staple in everyone's skincare routine.

Fawn: Absolutely. So, I totally get it. I’ve been using Tretinoin for a while as well. I'm starting to get these labial folds, and they're freaking me out!

Anyways, can you tell me a little bit about why you believe it's important to start focusing on collagen preservation in your 20s? I know you mentioned the 1% collagen loss.

Hailee: Right. Yeah, I mean, I think, for starters, the fact that that's when we start to lose it, so it's the perfect time to work to preserve it and prevent any more loss of it.

I also think that this is the perfect time in our lives to be educating ourselves on skincare and what we're putting on our skin and what we're putting in our bodies.

I do feel like, for me, my skincare routine—my skincare journey, I should say—has consisted of also realizing that it has a lot to do with what we put in our bodies, right? It comes from within.

So, you know, when I think skincare routine, I think of the products that I use, which are very few.

Less is more for me when it comes to my skin. It's very sensitive. But my skincare routine also consists of drinking a ton of water, working out, eating a healthy, balanced diet for the most part.

And all of these things, again, have been such a journey that I'm so grateful to have landed on a consistent routine at this point in my life where, you know, we're in the zone of pre-aging and taking these preventative steps for it.

Fawn: Absolutely. It's all about holistic wellness, right? So many people try to compartmentalize, but, I mean, half of protecting collagen is literally like moving your body and preserving your endothelial health with blood flow.

Hailee: Completely, completely.

And again, I think it's just a matter of helping people realize that and educating them.

And I've become such a sponge, if you will, to all of these facts.

I think we're so lucky that we have access to so much information these days and information in ways that are so easy to break down, which is so great because this stuff can be intimidating, and it is a lot of information, and it can be a little scary.

But I feel like with this product alone, the way that it's being presented to us is that it really can be as simple as just banking it now and working in this simple step in our routine that adds little to no time, really, that our future selves are going to thank us for.

Fawn: Tell me a little bit about why you like the collagen moisturizer, but also some other things that you're using in your routine?

Hailee: First of all, I am loving this for the sake of what it's doing.

I've been using this product for several weeks now, and I can already tell a difference in the plumpness of my skin, the glowiness of my skin, which I feel like is so important to me, especially in daily life.

I don't wear a whole lot of makeup. I love makeup, and when I do choose to put any more than a little on, I live for those moments.

But I prefer to just do a quick makeup look. If I'm really doing anything more than that, it's to cover up blemishes, dark circles, or any imperfections, if you will.

This product has allowed me to sort of minimize those, and when it comes to putting on makeup, it's just about accentuating my features and not so much hiding them.

This product—the technology behind it is incredible.

The patented micro peptide technology, which I'm learning so much about, and the fact that these anti-aging peptides in the product are two times smaller than others out there, allows them to actually penetrate the skin and make an impact, as opposed to just sitting on top.

Other products that I'm using: I use a cleanser from my dermatologist, Christie Kidd, that I have been using for—I should figure out how long—it's been a long time, but it's consistent, and it's so gentle, and it works.

You know when you find something that works, it doesn't leave the back of the counter, right?

We all know how that goes. And just a great moisturizer—that's kind of my third and final step, at least during the nighttime. Daytime always ends with an SPF.

Fawn: Of course. Awesome. I'd love to hear a little bit about the technology from you.

I started Skincare Stacy because I have a background in chemistry, and I broke out with adult acne a couple of years ago, and I couldn't figure out how to fix it.

I was sick of all the marketing, so I used my chemistry background to figure out the science of beauty and why different products work.

So, I may have to do a deep dive into some of the tech behind this product in the newsletter article around this interview.

But more than that, you mentioned that you really like how this product allows you to accentuate your features instead of hiding them. I love that line.

Can you tell me a little bit more about some of the other benefits that you've noticed since you started using the Neutrogena Collagen Bank moisturizer?

Hailee: Yeah, absolutely. That's so cool.

I feel like there's this more long-term effect that this product is having on my skin where, you know, you use a great moisturizer, and your skin looks really hydrated and great, and then a few hours go by, and maybe it's gotten a little greasy, or it hasn't worn well, or it clogs your pores, or it just doesn't work right.

I've had many a trial and error with products. I'm looking for something that I put on at nighttime, and I wake up, and my skin is still reaping the benefits of that product.

That's what Neutrogena Collagen Bank, I feel, is doing for me.

And again, then I feel like when it comes to doing my makeup or getting ready for the day, my skin has that internal glow.

And again, I feel that's due to the fact that this product has these peptides that are able to penetrate the skin ten layers deep, I believe.

Other peptides just sit on the skin's surface and don't do that.

Fawn: Very cool. Yeah, it's totally true.

A lot of the issue around peptides is that it's a little marketing-heavy, and then we have this thing called the 500 Dalton rule, which is that any compound greater than 500 Daltons, which is a molecular weight metric, can't actually penetrate the skin.

So the fact that you're telling me these peptides are very small in nature is actually telling me, like, yeah, they actually probably do penetrate the epidermis.

So moving on a little bit past the specific product, I just want to ask you a little bit about your life.

Your schedule must be super busy with filming and travel. I'm curious about how you're adjusting your skincare routine to keep your skin healthy and glowing when you're on the go or on set or traveling?

Hailee: So, I would say that the difference in my skincare routine is really a matter of using more or less of the products that I'm already using. I try not to change it up.

I find that consistency is key for my skin because if my skincare routine stays consistent when everything else isn't, then I feel like at least that's the one thing that's steady.

Everything else can be a shock to the system, but at least the products that are going on my face and into my skin are the same, and my skin is familiar with them.

Again, I'm in like a three-to-five-step skincare routine right now, and it's working, so that's where I'm staying.

But when I travel, I find my skin gets a little bit dry or inflamed and puffy, so it's the difference of laying off certain things or adding a little bit more moisture in.

Overall, I've learned the importance of just being kind to my skin and gentle with my skin.

It's so easy to get frustrated and pack on this product or that product or neglect your skin entirely and not do anything, right?

Which is also a thing that becomes easy when you're traveling, in different time zones, and you don't know where you are or what you're doing, and suddenly you forget to thoroughly go through your skincare routine.

That's also why it's been reduced to just a handful of products—because it is time-consuming, and I think if you can nail something that you feel comfortable and confident with—and by the way, that could be a ten-step skincare routine if that's your thing—that is your thing.

But for me, it's become what it is because of the travel and the inconsistency and lack of continuity in my life, that my skincare routine is just a quick, simple, clean, few-step routine.

Fawn: I get it. I travel a ton for work—for biom and for Skincare Stacy.

I get like 50 new products a month to try and write about, and it's like I don't know how to possibly keep up.

So I wish I was more like you in that regard.

Hailee: I do love a product test, though. I'm like a product junkie with that. I love to try new things, but I've definitely had to reel myself in with that because my skin feels differently.

Fawn: Well, if you’re ever in my area, I’ll give you a hundred to test out yourself.

So you've had an incredible career across acting and music. I did a little snooping around, and I saw that you were in a movie called True Grit, which I do remember coming out when I was in school - I remember hearing about it!

You were in Spider-Man, which I love. You've had some success in music as well. You're really like a one-woman show, kind of doing it all.

So, I wanted to hear a little bit about how you're balancing these two different fields.

Hailee: Yeah, you know, I feel so fortunate to be able to do what I love in different arenas and at different capacities.

When it comes to balancing everything, there's no denying that it's a challenge.

I definitely have moments where I'm like, "Did I bite off more than I can chew?"

But then I feel like if I have those moments, I'm reminded almost instantly that I get to do what I love, and none of this feels like work at the end of the day, which is the craziest thing to me.

So I just go back to feeling so fortunate to be able to do what I love and have that be a thing that connects me with people around the world.

I've recently launched—well, I guess by the time this interview comes out, I will have launched—a newsletter called Beau Society.

Fawn: Amazing. I was going to ask you about Beau Society, so I'm glad you brought it up! I get it.

When everyone else went to short-form video, I went to long-form written content with skincare and cosmetic chemistry.

I fully agree; there's no other way to connect with your readers like long-form writing.

Hailee: It's crazy because I too am one to get lost in the scroll, and my attention span has shrunk, absolutely.

But I also feel like, in a way, it's like going back to simpler times, right?

I loved a blog post, I loved a Tumblr moment. I was so into just getting lost in that, right?

And I missed that. I can still appreciate what you do in that sense because I just think it's important.

It's important and exciting, and there are people out there that want and need that. I'm excited to be doing my own version.

Fawn: I love that. I'm sure your readers are going to be so excited. When I looked you up, it was like Hailee Steinfeld fan clubs everywhere.

Hailee: Thank you.

Fawn: So, you are crazy busy like me. I want to go back to skincare for a second because there are so many different triggers for different skin concerns.

I made these fluoride-free toothpaste tablets because I found out that fluoride was impacting my perioral dermatitis and acne. And also, working 24/7, you break out all the time.

So I wanted to know, and I'm sure the readers want to know, do you get stress breakouts like the rest of us?

If so, how do you deal with it? And even if you're not getting acne breakouts, how are you managing stress in your day-to-day life?

Hailee: You learn something new every day, girl. I need your number! That's crazy.

Yes, I do get breakouts. If only I could answer that question with "No, I can't relate," it would be a dream.

But no, I absolutely get stress breakouts.

In fact, I literally said to my mom a few weeks ago because I was so stressed about God knows what, I literally said I feel like my forehead is about to just explode with breakouts—I can feel it.

My body has its ways of making it very clear that we're stressed, and breaking out will be the first sign.

My skin is the first thing to show you. So I absolutely get stress breakouts, and again, that's where I feel like it starts from within, right?

Your skincare routine includes making sure you're putting great, healthy foods into your body and drinking a lot of water.

It sounds so cliché, and I have my incredible dad to remind me of it way too many times a day, but it's so true because if it weren't for him doing that, I wouldn't realize that I wasn't drinking enough water almost all the time, right?

So, I do get stress breakouts, and the worst part about it is that I then stress about the breakout.

Fawn: I know. Totally, and not to ask you too technical of a skincare question, but when you do get those breakouts, is there any specific product or regimen you follow?

Hailee: I love a stubborn acne patch from Neutrogena. I will walk around with those all over—no shame.

Fawn: I do too. I use Hero though.

Hailee: Honestly, it's just a matter of trying to remain calm, centering myself, and also just trying not to touch my face and do something about it because sometimes, you know, my hands will get the best of the little blemish, but I've gotten a lot better at that, I'll tell you that much.

Fawn: Absolutely. That's the big one—no touching your face!

I’m not typically the biggest fan of tallow-based products - largely because of the way they smell, but also because I’m acne prone and tallow tends to break me out.
