6. Curling Wand

I use a curling wand, around 0.75-1 inch in size, and it includes a clip, though I never use it.

Since the clip lays flush with the barrel, it doesn't affect the curls.

I got it secondhand from a friend back in 2019, so I’m not sure of the brand.

I wish I had a cordless version instead of one with a cord because the cord is a bit annoying. It constantly gets tangled up when I’m doing my hair.

I have another clipped iron with a larger barrel, and it always leaves a weird bend at the end of my hair, though maybe that’s just me being bad at using it (very possible).

In 2025, I’m embracing my curls! I have thick 2c/3a hair and recently got a great haircut.

I used to have about three feet of hair, but I got about 8 inches taken off, and I’m loving the volume I get from the long layers I asked for.

(Highly recommend asking for face-framing bangs if you have hair like mine!)

This curling wand is a lifesaver for quick touch-ups—I can spend just 15 minutes working on the curls in the front of my head before heading out.

It’s way easier on my hair than trying to straighten it, and it looks better than leaving it natural after a few days.

My wash routine includes ScalpMed shampoo, L’Oréal Ever Pure Conditioner, and for leave-in, I use Blueberry Bliss Curls, Dae Curl Cream, and FountainHead Moisturizing Hair Oil.

I also use Briogeo’s Don’t Despair, Repair Hair Mask once a week, but I leave it on for a day or two before washing it out because sometimes I am laaaaazy. You’re really not supposed to do that, but hey, life gets in the way sometimes.

I also scrunch my hair when wet and apply the leave-in conditioner, and lately I’ve been blow-drying it a bit instead of using the plop method.

Two open concerns I have:

1. I’m still struggling with my curls being more “stringy” than clumping nicely into bigger voluminous curls. Maybe it’s just my hair, maybe I’m doing something wrong.

2. I’m still figuring out how to get more volume at the roots without curling—might need a texturizing spray.

Like many of you, I went through the “pick whatever’s on the shelf that says it’s oil-free and hope it fixes my skin” phase.

Suitable for mild to moderate acne, adapalene is a great retinoid treatment to control breakouts.

The catch?

It doesn’t work if you just apply it once or twice like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.

With retinoids, you have to be consistent in applying them because they work by speeding up skin cell turnover, and the typical cell cycle is ~28 days.

So, if you want to use adapalene, you have to commit to applying it consistently for 3-6 months to see results.

In addition to classic salicylic acid which is a great anti-acne ingredient, it also includes niacinamide to support your protective skin barrier.

Having gone through a couple full bottles of CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser, I can confirm that it’s a good, affordable cleanser.

In fact, I think this is one of the best salicylic acid products you can get at the drugstore, and I particularly like it for teenagers with acne because it’s an uncomplicated product to use.

It reduces blemishes and prevents new ones from forming.

That being said, it does feel a bit stripping on my dry skin.

Mineral Sunscreen

Keep in mind that nearly all mineral sunscreens leave a white cast on darker skin tones because the UV filter, zinc, is a white powder.

That's why I chose two tinted sunscreens that suit a wider range of skin tones, though they might not work for everyone.

I'll compare chemical sunscreens next, which work for all skin tones.

True Botanicals Skin Barrier Sun Shield SPF 30.

While I do think this is a good mineral sunscreen, the light tint restricts its usage to people with lighter skin tones, and it feels thick and heavy on application which can be uncomfortable in the summer.

MyChelle Sun Shield Liquid SPF 30 is great if you want something heavier to replace your foundation, and I love that it comes in a dropper bottle.

Chemical Sunscreen

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Lotion Sunscreen SPF 50.

I used to love this one as a holy grail drugstore find, but recently, it’s been stinging my eyes like crazy, and I can't figure out why.

This SPF is suitable for all skin tones, and it can leave a nice glossy sheen almost like one of my favorites from Supergoop, the Glowscreen. However, it’s a lot thicker and somewhat “greasier”.

Naturium UV Reflect Antioxidant SPF 50 or Dew Glow Moisturizer.

I love both!

Get the first if you have oily skin and the second if you have dry skin, and the second also has extracts to block blue light.

As much as I want to love it and still use it occasionally, it can cause an uncomfortable burning sensation.

It’s quite strong, which might be perfect for someone with resilient skin or someone who doesn’t use a lot of actives, so otherwise, I suggest . . .

The Doctor's Visit Instant Resurfacing Mask has a fun jelly texture, almost like Jell-O.

The pineapple enzymes help loosen dead skin and reduce minor hyperpigmentation and blemishes.

For Acne

Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant

This is a great product, but summertime acne tends to be more angry and inflamed.

Salicylic acid, like in Paula's Choice, is better for whiteheads and non-inflammatory acne.

That’s not to say you can’t use it year-round, but if you’re dealing with angry, red, inflamed acne from sweating more, you should consider . . .

However, it has a bit of an odd smell, and I don’t feel like it completely washes off your skin, even after scrubbing with my hands for a full minute.

That’s why I like Versed's Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm better.

Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm is an excellent choice for those of us who need to double cleanse, and recently, I’ve been enjoying the cleansing balm from Elemis too.

I tried Versed’s in a bunch of scenarios - no makeup or sunscreen, to remove sunscreen, and to remove heavy makeup including red lipstick, and it did a phenomenal job of thoroughly cleansing my skin each time.

You really only need a tiny amount to completely remove sunscreen.

The formula contains vitamin E, eucalyptus oil, clove leaf oil, jojoba oil, and avocado oil which makes it quite nourishing, but for those of you who are sensitive, your skin may not love the eucalyptus oil.

(personally, I find the eucalyptus a bit overpowering in scent)

Also, the packaging is also perfect for travel, making it a great cleanser to take on the go.

And finally, despite having acne-prone skin, I’m not worried about it causing breakouts.

Funny enough, yes, I prefer this cleansing balm to the more expensive Cleansing Oil from Tatcha. It does come in a smaller package though.

Peptide Serum

Pass:

The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + Copper Peptides 1% Serum is all-in-one serum leverages multiple peptide technologies, skin-friendly amino acids, and hyaluronic acids to target various signs of aging.

With direct copper peptides, it enhances elasticity, smoothness, and firmness, promoting healthier, radiant skin by combating oxidative stress.

While it's an impressive and affordable peptide serum, those with a bigger budget might want to try Mirror Skin's Copper Elixir for an elevated experience.

aka the concoctions of supplements I take for different situations, like treating a hangover, needing to focus for a block of difficult work, or making a sober night more fun and social.

I. Top 10 Favorite Individual Supplements

Now, let’s talk supps.

1. Best for Overall Health

Creatine

I've been taking 5g of creatine daily for years, and if someone asked me if I were trapped on a desert island and could only take one supplement, I'd probably be disqualified from the game because I'd be stuck there forever trying to choose between magnesium and creatine.

This powerhouse supplement is a staple in my routine, and for good reason. Creatine isn’t just for bodybuilders or gym rats – it’s for anyone who wants to improve their overall health and performance.

What I love about creatine is its versatility.

It boosts muscle strength and endurance, which means you can push harder during workouts and recover faster. But the benefits go beyond just physical performance.

Creatine has been shown to support cognitive function and may even have neuroprotective properties, making it a smart choice for anyone looking to keep their brain in top shape.

Whether you’re lifting weights, going for a run, or just getting through a busy day, creatine helps me feel strong, focused, and ready for anything.

As a bonus, I credit creatine with getting through a period of serious sleep deprivation this past spring without missing (…all that much…) of a beat.

2. Best of Sleep

Magnesium Glycinate

When it comes to sleep aids, magnesium glycinate is my go-to. I've been taking it for about two years, and it was actually the first form of magnesium I ever tried – yes, even before chloride.

The difference I feel on nights when I take it versus nights when I forget is astounding. General advice says to take it 30 minutes before bed, but I generally prefer to take it 60-90 minutes before bed.

That said, I do take a hefty dose of 1200 mg each night, which might be a bit much for beginners.

Magnesium can mess with your digestion if you're not used to it, so it's better to start with a smaller dose of 200-400 mg and increase as needed.

Trust me, your digestive system will thank you.

I believe that ideally, we’d all be taking a gram or so of elemental magnesium per day between food and supplementation, so that could be a benchmark.

3. Best for Versatility

Magnesium Chloride

Magnesium chloride has become a staple in my daily routine.

I put a pinch of it in every glass of water I drink, especially after a gym session.

At first, the taste is a bit odd, but once you get used to it, it actually starts to make the water taste sweet.

I used to think people were crazy when they said it starts tasting sweet once you're no longer deficient, but experiencing it firsthand showed me the light.

I also love using magnesium chloride flakes in a steaming hot bath – I add a healthy 1/2 cup to a full cup whenever I can remember to take one.

Topical magnesium chloride is fantastic for muscle recovery, relaxation, and even reducing menstrual cramps.

Another trick I learned from Grimhood on Twitter is making a magnesium oil spray.

By dissolving 1/2 cup of magnesium chloride flakes in 1/2 cup of boiling water and putting it in a spray bottle, I have a convenient, portable solution.

On stressful days, spritzing the back of my neck and shoulders does wonders.

This multi-use supplement is a powerhouse for both internal and external use, making it an essential part of my wellness toolkit.

4. Best for Focus

L-Theanine

L-theanine quickly become a favorite in my daily routine. I’ve been taking it for about 18 months, and it’s been incredible for my low caffeine tolerance.

With L-theanine, I can enjoy my morning coffee without the usual heart racing or jitters. It provides a smooth, focused experience that makes my mornings much more productive and pleasant.

Personally, I prefer to mix it into my morning drink of water and electrolytes (see “Daily Morning Drink” explanation in the next section below).

Beyond just making coffee more enjoyable, L-theanine is also known for its neuroprotective properties. It helps to support brain health, improve cognitive function, and reduce stress.

Additionally, L-theanine can promote relaxation without drowsiness, making it an excellent supplement for both focus during the day and winding down at night.

Whether I need to concentrate on a challenging task or simply want to enjoy a cup of coffee without the drawbacks, L-theanine is my go-to solution.

5. Best of Electrolyte Balance

Potassium Chloride

Potassium chloride might not be the most exciting supplement in my lineup, but it plays a crucial role in maintaining my electrolyte balance (alongside sodium and magnesium).

This essential mineral is especially important during times when you’re not eating a lot of potassium-rich foods like potatoes (winter is more of a rice season for me), when you exercise a lot, or if you’re managing high blood pressure.

I’ll be honest – potassium chloride tastes pretty terrible if you put too much in your water. But if you get the balance right, it can be a lifesaver.

Just make sure you're also getting enough salt and magnesium, as these work together to keep your electrolytes in check.

And don’t ask me about the precise dosage; I measure with a spoon and a prayer.

But despite its unremarkable taste and my informal dosing method, potassium chloride has become a vital part of my supplement routine for its reliable benefits.

6. Best for Brain Fog (?)

Methylene Blue

Methylene blue is a bit of a wildcard in my supplement routine.

I've been taking it for about three months, mainly because my boyfriend swears by it and puts it in my morning water every day.

While I haven't noticed a huge difference myself, I'm sharing it because so many people I love and respect rave about its ability to reduce brain fog and improve mental clarity.

I don’t mind taking it daily for now, but if it were up to me, I’d probably cycle it when I need extra help focusing or recovering from a hangover.

Even though my personal experience with methylene blue has been subtle, the overwhelming positive feedback from those around me makes it worth mentioning.

Sometimes, it’s about trusting the insights of those who’ve found it beneficial and giving it a try yourself.

7. Best for Hormonal & Cholesterol Balance

Berberine

Berberine is a powerhouse supplement, especially for women dealing with hormonal issues like PCOS or hormonal acne.

It’s also beneficial for those with high A1Cs and high cholesterol.

While this isn't medical advice, I find berberine to be a therapeutic ingredient that can make a noticeable difference during longer stressful periods of time when I'm not at my leanest and feel myself getting out of shape.

I usually cycle berberine during these times, taking two doses at night since it's easier for me to remember than splitting one dose and taking half twice daily.

While it’s not a miracle cure, berberine provides a helpful edge in managing those tougher times when my body needs a bit more support.

8. Best for Hitting Your Protein Goal

Egg White Protein

While it might not technically count as a supplement, I’m including egg white protein because I'd wager a good 75% of women aren’t meeting their nutritional needs.

Also, a lot of you might be dealing with acne from all the whey protein you’re taking without realizing there’s a great alternative that won’t make you break out.

I love the egg white protein from True Nutrition – its amino acid profile is a perfect alternative to whey, and it keeps my skin clear.

My favorite flavors are red velvet and cinnamon toast swirl, but I also keep a bag or two of the cookie dough flavor on hand for making protein-rich desserts (heads up - I think those flavors are only available on their website, not Amazon)

This versatile protein powder has become a staple in my kitchen, helping me meet my nutritional needs without compromising my skin.

9. Best for Overall Support

NAC (w/ TUDCA)

NAC, or N-Acetyl Cysteine, is one of those supplements I wish I remembered to take daily (sue me, lol).

Well, you probably don’t need to take it daily, but it’s worth considering cycling depending on how much environmental (or even emotional, in my opinion) stress you’re under.

This powerhouse is a potent antioxidant, acting as a cysteine donor and glutathione precursor. Its benefits extend far and wide, from neuroprotective benefits and supporting your innate immune and detox systems.

NAC is also great for your heart, making it a great all-around supplement.

Like I mentioned earlier, it bolsters the immune system and supports your liver, which is why I never skip it on those rare nights of drinking – it’s amazing at preventing a hangover.

When I’m sick, I always take about 1000 mg each night to give my immune system that extra boost.

10. Best for Heart Health

And magnesium glycinate is a powerhouse for sleep, relaxing muscles and calming the nervous system for deeper, more restful sleep.

To conclude, I’ll leave you with one brand that I’m really . . . not quite sure what to think about.

I have the Glow with Your Gut and Rest and Digest from Sera & Mattina, and they might be decent supplements for beginners or those who aren’t going to test out a bunch of supplements and dosages to figure out what works best for them.

On the other hand, I’m not familiar with the different pro/prebiotic blends they use, I’m not pleased with the use of magnesium oxide in the PM blend, and I think some of the key non-gut healing ingredients are a little underdosed.

If you just want something easy to try that combines a bunch of ingredients and might improve your quality of life, you’re welcome to pick that up.

But, if you ask me, I suggest you grab my big 3 instead - creatine, magnesium, and l-theanine - and use those consistently for a few months instead.

In terms of collagen support, methylene blue and vitamin C work together. They rejuvenate skin cells, diminish fine lines, and boost collagen production.

To reduce UVB damage, tremella mushroom and gotu kola are included and they also are known for enhancing skin elasticity. They also reduce signs of UVB damage and decrease water loss from the skin.

If you're dealing with body acne, PanOxyl Acne Foaming Wash with 10% Benzoyl Peroxide is one of my go-to products.

It's incredibly effective because BP is not only anti-microbial but also anti-inflammatory.

Simply apply it to the affected area, leave it on for three to five minutes, and then rinse it off.

Neostrata Glycolic Renewal Smoothing Lotion

Comparable to Amlactin but stronger, Neostrata's Glycolic Renewal Smoothing Lotion is your cure for acne scars, dark spots, and more.

It's also effective for treating keratosis pilaris, or "chicken skin," as well.

It's especially great as you're preparing for beach season and want to clear up any scars and such before you start wearing less clothing in the summertime.

Definitely a top pick!

Hanni Water Balm Custom Hydration Body Moisturizer Mist

For hydrating without any greasy, sticky, or oily residue, I love the Hanni Water Balm Custom Hydration Body Moisturizer Mist.

I love most of the products from Hanni (especially Splash Salve, but that’s a little too heavy for summer in my opinion).

Water Balm is a post-shower spray designed to add an extra layer of hydration to the skin.

It contains cottonseed oil, giving it a nourishing effect on your skin (skin looooves fats) while remaining super lightweight and hydrating.

The application is refreshing and the sensation is pleasant - you'll be amazed at how nourishing a simple hydrating spray can be, especially layered over Splash Salve.

And, perhaps most important, it won't make you sweat once you apply it.

Cerave Moisturizing Cream

So, if you happen to experience a burn from too much time in the sun, I highly recommend Cerave Moisturizing Cream.

It’s a budget-friendly, thick cream that nourishes your skin, and it’s been in rotation in my bathroom for nearly five years.

For an elevated cream that’s a touch above CeraVe, consider Naturium Marshmallow Root Barrier Balm (with black seed oil!) or Medik8 Advanced Ceramide Cream.

Nerra Dry Body Oil

And I love Nerra's Dry Body Oil because it soaks in really quickly but leaves you with a shiny and glowing complexion, which is fantastic.

I was never super into body oils, although I would occasionally mix some into my lotion if I was particularly dry and flaky.

This one comes in a spray so it’s easy to travel with and it's formulated with a blend of Mediterranean oils and botanical extracts known for their nourishing properties.

Vertra Premium Suncare

Alright, now let me get into some sunscreen options.

One of my favorite sunscreens for summertime is Vertra Premium Suncare because not only is it near impossible to spill in your bag because of the innovative packaging, but it also smells good and doesn’t leave a white cast.

If you’re into organic sunscreens, consider this one from Vertra.

And P.S. - they also make sunscreen sticks that come in invisible as well as tinted shades. I throw one in my backpack, purse, and carry-on just to make things easy.

Hero Superlight Sunscreen & Superbeam Sunscreen

For mineral sunscreens, one of my favorite brands is Hero Cosmetics.

Hero offers two different mineral sunscreens:

Superbeam Sunscreen SPF 30 (tinted) and Superlight Sunscreen SPF 30 (not tinted).

They’re both surprisingly lightweight for mineral sunscreens (and trust me, I’ve tried like a million mineral sunscreens and hate nearly all of them), and the tinted one nicely covers up scars and dark spots.

Naturium UV Reflect Antioxidant SPF 50

Aaaand trust me, unless you’re a serious skincare junkie, you’ve never tried an SPF like Naturium’s UV Reflect sunscreen.

This sunscreen is more like a serum, delivering weightless SPF coverage with a silky smooth finish - almost like velvet.

I love the ultralight texture because I’m acne prone, so this SPF won’t clog pores or cause breakouts either.

Further, there are ingredients in this product that help absorb oil which gives you that ~sheer matte~ look all day long - perfect for people with oilier skin types.

And yes, I promise, zero white cast! I’m a huge fan and have repurchased this already.

Naturium Dew-Glow Moisturizer SPF 50

Naturium Dew-Glow Moisturizer SPF 50 has extracts to fight blue light and protect you from anti-aging and skin cancer.

Dew-Glow has a creamy, medium-weight lotion texture that takes about a minute to absorb.

It needs to be rubbed in carefully, but once it does, your skin feels incredible.

You’ll be plump and dewy, without any heavy, icky, greasy feeling.

Okay, so maybe I’m just super sensitive to weird textures on my face.

But the name is accurate - this is truly a complete moisturizer and SPF in one.

It’s hydrating and nourishing and makes a great base for layering foundation and makeup.

For people with oily or acne-prone skin though, I think this one can be just a touch too heavy for everyday use.

Vitamin C Complex Serum

Naturium’s Vitamin C serum is shockingly good for the price. In fact, you’ll find the same technology in this serum that you’ll find it other way more expensive vitamin C products.

It’s great for fighting signs of aging, especially dark spots. I suggest apply 3-5 drops as part of your morning routine between cleansing and moisturizing/SPF.

Azelaic Acid

It kills me inside that this one isn’t included in the serum sale because Azelaic Topical Acid, by far, my favorite Naturium product (and I’ve tried so freakin’ many).

This one product not only fights acne but also gets rid of red spots, flaky skin, and can even soothe rosacea.

Oh, and it’s a thousand times better than The Ordinary’s Azelaic Acid. Just trust me.

Retinol Complex Serum

If you’re new to anti-aging skincare, you need to try Naturium’s Retinol Serum.

It includes both retinol and bakuchiol which have a positive synergistic effect on each other to fight fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots.

And if you’re already used to using retinol in your routine, consider giving their retinaldehyde cream serum a try.

I suggest applying 5-7 drops (or a pea-sized amount if you use a thicker product) in between your cleanser and moisturizer at night.

Salicylic Acid Serum

I recommend Naturium’s Salicylic Acid Serum one all the time to people with acne!

It’s a simple 2% salicylic acid serum formulated with maltobionic acid and Amorphophallus Konjac Root Extract to hydrate & soothe your skin from the irritation that occasionally accompanies salicylic acid.

In particularly, this product is especially good for non-inflammatory acne like blackheads and whiteheads.

Mandelic Acid

Just like with the azelaic acid, I’m furious that Mandelic Topical Acid isn’t on sale with the other serums. I mean come on, this is basically a serum!

I digress.

Mandelic acid is an awesome alpha hydroxy acid that is way more gentle than glycolic or lactic acid, making it perfect for people with sensitive skin.

It’s good for treating acne and unwanted skin texture, and mandelic acid even has anti-fungal properties so it may help with fungal acne depending on the severity of your case.

Anyways, just in general, I love Naturium. I’ve written about the brand extensively on my website, though I’m miffed they still won’t give us an exclusive Skincare Stacy discount code.

If you’re new to skincare and you want to experiment with anti-aging products, I wouldn’t bother trying to go to a thousand brands trying to find stuff that works.

Just try this like I did.

Other cleansers that you’re used to use cheap, harsh surfactants that strip away your natural oils and compromise your skin barrier.

Those brands use old, outdated ingredients and cut corners to make basic cleansers thinking you won’t know the difference.

Worse, they grab the cheapest formula possible from a foreign supplier, slap a label on it, and try to pass it off as an innovative product.

Here’s what sets H2.O apart:

At 10%, the key ingredient, acetamidoethoxyethanol, interacts with water and keratin (skin protein) to keep the water molecules tightly bound in your stratum corneum.

Best Moisturizer: Naturium Marshmallow Root Barrier Balm

I wrote about Marshmallow Root Barrier Balm a ton when I first got it a few months ago, and for a good reason.

If you have dry skin, this will be your new holy grail moisturizer.

Packed with tons of skin-loving ingredients like black seed oil and extracts that fight redness in a near occlusive-like balm, this stuff feels like a pillow you apply to your face.

I’d rank this as one of my greatest purchases of the year (if not all time . . . okay, that might be dramatic).

Best Retinol Serum: FaceTheory Hyaluret Serum S13

I use tretinoin, not retinol anymore, but I think FaceTheory’s Hyaluret Serum is one of the absolute best retinol serums for beginners.

It uses a derivative of retinol that shows improved bioavailable of standard retinol and is super hydrating which is a perfect combination to counteract the drying effects.

That said, this is more of a serum, so if you want something with more of a lotion texture, I’d suggest trying out CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum.

Unlike retinol, tretinoin is a prescription medication.

If you don’t have insurance or simply don’t want to deal with going in to see a dermatologist, I suggest checking out a reputable online pharmacy like UluRX.

They also do cool things a traditional derm can’t, like creating custom formulas for your specific needs.

Best Vitamin C Serum: Naturium Vitamin C Complex

Vitamin C is the second most powerful anti-aging ingredient in skincare behind retinol, but not all formulations are winners.

I like this serum from Naturium because it uses pure l-ascorbic acid and stabilizes it in a unique delivery system with gold.

The formula also includes sodium ascorbyl phosphate, a derivative of vitamin C with anti-acne and brightening properties, and a few different fruit extracts with antioxidant effects.

I also like Paula’s Choice C15 Super Booster and Protocol Vitamin C Superserum, though they’re both a bit pricier.

Best Peptide Serum: Medik8 Liquid Peptides

This is one of my very favorite peptide products and one of few that I actually think is worth the price point.

Formulating in a light, hydrating serum, Medik8 Liquid Peptides packs in targetted peptides to target everything from fine lines to expression lines all in one simple step.

I like using this one morning and night after my main treatment (vitamin C or azelaic acid in the morning, retinoids at night).

Best Eye Cream: FaceTheory OcuWake Pro

What can I say, I love FaceTheory!

OcuWake Pro is packed with peptides and a phenomenal ingredient for improving microcirculation underneath your eyes and reducing dark circles, hexylresorcinol.

I also liked Banish’s Eye Cream this year for the lovely cooling effect, but this one from FaceTheory wins out for the anti-aging peptides.

Best Acne Treatment: Murad Deep Relief Acne Treatment

If you have hormonal acne and don’t want to spring for the red light therapy device I mentioned earlier, try this treatment from Murad.

Deep Relief Acne Treatment is a milky-ish serum that combines salicylic acid with a phytosteroid to treat those pesky under-the-skin blemishes that hurt terribly and are impossible to pop.

I mean, it’s great for treating regular acne too, but hormonal acne is where this product really shines.

Best Skincare Device: Banish The Banisher 2.0

Microneedling is a new at-home procedure for me. I was scared to try it at home, but The Banisher makes it so easy.

I also appreciate that the needles are only .5mm as that’s way safer than some of these other devices.

Basically, I just soak the needle part in rubbing alcohol for 5 minutes and then slowly use it all over my face and hairline.

The idea is that creating these tiny channels in your skin stimulates a wound-healing response that soothes inflammation, stimulates collagen production, helps get rid of dark spots, promotes hair growth, and a host of wonderful things.

Overall, I’m super pleased with this device and will keep using it weekly.

Best SPF: Vertra Beach Break Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 30

I am so picky about sunscreen.

I hate the smell of most of them, many have weird textures or leave my skin greasy, etc.

That’s why I was so delighted to finally find Beach Break from Vertra.

The package is unique - basically, the pump for the product doesn’t come out until you twist the tube, so there’s no way for it to leak in my bag.

Plus, the formula is lightweight and moisturizing, has a pleasant scent (well, I can’t smell it but other people have said I smell good while I was wearing it and I was like . . . yeah, no perfume, that’s just my SPF lol), and 0 greasy or tacky feeling afterward.

I would repurchase this sunscreen and its sister products, the sunscreen sticks.

Best Facial Oil: True Botanicals Pure Radiance Oil

If I were stranded on a desert island, I would bring Pure Radiance Facial Oil before I would any water or a cell phone.

Okay, so maybe that’s too dramatic.

But I use this facial oil nearly every single night without fail. It’s the ultimate sealant after using strong actives like retinol or tretinoin, and it doesn’t feel greasy or anything.

I find it’s more nourishing than your average cheap oil (although I still love rosehip oil) and absorbs more easily.

My skin is way more hydrated, plump, and glowy in the mornings when I use Pure Radiance Oil at night.

The Bottom Line

Man, I’ve tried so many other amazing products this year that don’t quite have a place in any of the categories on my list.

Like, True Botanicals Everything Rescue Balm saved my cracked, bleeding nose earlier this winter.

And I finally found a foundation I like, Blunder Cover.

And Circcell’s Discoloration Potion is the perfect moisturizer to use under SPF thanks to the iron oxides that help block blue light.

And Epres Bonding Treatment that I found was 1000x more effective than Olaplex.

Sigh - there will never be enough time in the world to test all the products I want to try and write about.

But a girl can try!

And hey, if you’ve stuck with me all year . . . well, I wouldn’t be able to do this without all of you.

Okay, okay, I’m being dramatic.

But seriously, I don’t wear any foundation or concealer. My real vice though?

I. Freaking. Love. Lipstick.

You’ll never catch me out in public without something on my lips, whether it’s lipstick, gloss, or plain old Vaseline.

I’ve tried a thousand lipsticks and hated 997 of them. For me to like a lipstick, it has to pass the following criteria:

• Nude, pink, or red (I don’t wear any other shades)

• Lasts a good eight hours of wear without reapplication

• Doesn’t dry your lips out *or* flake

These usually end up being liquid lipsticks. And like I said, 99.7% don’t pass the test!

But here are the three that do:

Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment ($28)

I just recently found this one a few months ago, and it’s my absolute favorite.

I have never worn a lipstick as comfortable and long-lasting as Nars.

Unfortunately, it’s also the most expensive of the bunch, but I’ve learned over time that lipstick isn’t something to skimp on.

Trust me, if you’re looking for a lipstick that lasts an entire day, you need to try this one.

Caveat here: you need a steady hand and precision to pull this one off.

The formula is very liquid-y.

However, if you are as autistic about beauty as I am, you won’t have an issue.

Plus you can always line your lips ahead of time to give yourself some room for error. If you’re looking for a recommendation, I use this lip liner.

Sephora Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick ($15)

I LOVE this stuff.

It dries down matte, comes in a ton of shades, and has decent wear time.

Unfortunately, this one just isn’t as good as Nars because the formula is thicker (in my opinion). So it’s not easy to be precise.

But if you’re not good at applying lipstick, the thicker formula might actually might work in your favor.

Also, it doesn’t last quite as long as NARS does.

But trust, it’s still really good.

Also, if you’re looking for something more comfortable, this one does better than the NARS one in my opinion.

Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink ($11)

This is the most affordable of the bunch, and it’s good.

It’s just not great.

It stays on and is super hard to get off.

Seriously - not even coconut oil does the trick. I have to use a little dab of Olaplex No. 7 to get it off.

The shade range is good too, so there’s something for everyone.

However, it can be a little drying and does get flaky after long enough wear.

Normally I wouldn’t care too much, but the texture is thick so you can’t really layer it well.

But hey, if you’re looking for a good option on a budget, look no further!

Final Thoughts

These 3 are tried and true staples in my life, and I’m confident you’ll like them too.

They’re all highly pigmented and comfortable to wear all day.

Buuuut, I know it’s annoying that the most expensive lipstick is the best. Look, I’m not saying you should go out and spend racks on designer lipstick.

You don’t even have to like my recommendations!

I just love lipstick, and this is the guide I wish I had when I was trying those aforementioned thousand lipsticks (kek).

My rule of thumb: splurge on the lipstick, save on the gloss.

You’ll thank me later.
